Like in Astrology there are so many variations in Numerology. But, we will consider the two major variations.

Using Date of Birth

Two numbers are calculated using the date of birth of any person. First the numbers of the digits of the date are summed. If the answer has two digits they are summed again to get a one-digit number (which can be a digit from 1 to 9). Then another number is calculated using the entire date of birth (Date, Month and Year as 4 digit) using the same method. Using these two numbers either the static qualities (characteristics of any person) or dynamic qualities (what will happen when you are at a particular age) can be stated.

We will take the same example that we have taken in Astrology. The date of birth is 30th March 1955. So the first number is 3+0=3 and second number is 3+0+3+1+9+5+5=26 and 2+6=8. Due to these two numbers, the characteristics of this person can be explained. According to Numerology, since the first number is 3, all the career developments and educational matters will be succeeded in the ages which will add up to 3,6 or 9. (21st, 24th, 27th, 30th etc.) Since the second number is 8, personal developments in home front will be succeeded in the ages which will add up to 1,2,4 or 8.(19th, 20th, 22nd, 26th etc.)

Using Name

Each English letter is given a value. Then the numbers of the letters used in the name are summed and depending on the value you get, the characteristics will be stated.

Just assume that, for an example, if value 1 is given to A, 2 for B, and so on till 26 to Z, and use this method similarly (even though in Numerology the values are not 1,2,3 so on), you will get a value less than 100 for the words such as “KNOWLEDGE”, “LUCK”, “LOVE”, “MONEY” or “HARDWORK”. You will get 100 for the word “ATTITUDE”. Very strange!

When Astrology has billions and billions of combinations, Numerology has only 9×9 =81 combinations. (Instead of reducing the number to one digit, if we stop at two digits, there may be more combinations.) So the entire world community is put into 81 different categories for analysis.

Since the number of possibilities is too small and due to the difficulty in using to explain finer characteristics or events, we may not be in a position to consider this as a good analytical tool.
