පීටර් ප්‍රවුඩ්ගේ පුනරුත්පත්තිය

“Reincarnation of Peter Proud”

Hmm ……. another reincarnation story !!!…..

But, there is nothing in the blog post about the cinematography of the film, only the story. So I am not mistaken when I say , it seems , the Blog Author is carried away primarily with the story line in both cases.

What I am asking is…… what is so special in these stories …?
Is it because they are fictitious tries based on reincarnation , (which appears so dear to you … and some of Blog readers ..) . Can anybody clarify ?

There are some interesting responses relating to my earlier comment on reincarnation and Science. I specifically asked .. Does the belief ( in reincarnation ) helped you in your life ? Sadly no response !

Further… I have few comments on following lines ……
“Since Science could not reveal so many things and since Science keep on changing the definitions ..”

Yes, that is why scientific thinking is evolving , day by day, and so many people are involved in advancing the frontier of human knowledge and understanding. It is the basis of scientific thinking to change , not only the the definitions , but entire past findings and deductions based on new evidence.

“even in this 21st Century all the religions exist not only in Sri Lanka, but also in USA, Europe and Australia.”

At a loss to understand the relevance here . Does it mean that the ” reincarnation” is embodied in all the religions and because of that even the developed western countries believe these concepts ?

“You don’t have to die to explain reincarnation also you don’t need science to explain it”
Glad to here some one explain it , through science or any other means.

“If you think science can explain everything you gotta be kidding…”

If scientific thinking can’t explain .. What other ways to explain ?

“Science and Knowledge in the 21st century has no explanations to this phenomena but at least it is open to such ideas …….”

Pl see my above comment,… and can you clarify ?

    • Wathsala Vithanage says:

Science will never explain everything. Science itself has already proven that it cannot explain everything through Godel’s incompleteness theorem.

Science is all about a set of axioms, you build everything on top of it. If Science was initially developed on a different set of axioms which are little bit different then we might have experienced an entirely different science. Chaos theory states that changing initial states of a system can drastically deviate it’s latter states making it hard to predict.

I have no idea about your understanding of Science (my knowledge in natural sciences is very superficial) but to clarify matters from your point of view I would like ask about any scientific research that has disproved the concept of reincarnation (Please do not refer to articles written by every Dick and Jane on blogs, refer to a work published in a recognized scientific journal or a conference).

    • Fiqri says:

      @S Perera,

“You don’t have to die to explain reincarnation also you don’t need science to explain it”
Glad to here some one explain it , through science or any other means.

I think you missed this or ignored this

Imagine you were born as a baby and played as a child and grown as a boy/girl and married as a man/woman and die as an old man/old woman.

You have already followed almost 5 steps of reincarnation.

You said : If scientific thinking can’t explain .. What other ways to explain ?

BTW how you think in science, whats the definition of thinking in science. If you say “I don’t believe in any thing that science cant explain” that will be a stupid answer. Can you please tell me the method of thinking in science.. like what parameters you look in, how you define it “wrong” or “correct” or “possible” or “impossible” ???

Then after will explain how reincarnation happens🙂

  10. S Perera says:

    @Wathsala Vithanage
Extremely puzzled about your statements (and “ understanding”) on Science.
(“ Science will never explain everything……” “ Science is all about set of axioms … “) Who said these statements describe Science or scientific thinking ?…. (Probably , only Wathsala Vithanage)

“I would like ask about any scientific research that has disproved the concept of reincarnation …..”
Now , it seems the cat has jumped out of the bag !
What is their to prove ..? If we go back to the stories described in the blog posts , the Blog Author says these films are about reincarnation. But again we are very much sure, these are fictional stories. So what is their to prove ? or disprove in that matter ?
    @ Fiqri
“ Imagine you were born as a baby and played as a child and grown as a boy/girl and married as a man/woman and die as an old man/old woman. You have already followed almost 5 steps of reincarnation.”

Certainly I didn’t ignore .. (I’m sorry . if I missed your point ..). But is this explains the reincarnation ? I am not sure. According to the film stories it is a complete different thing. That’s why I didn’t comment on the above .

“ Can you please tell me the method of thinking in science…….”
I am glad to explain Science , Scientific thinking, Scientific method ……etc, (and that’s what I am doing for a living ). No doubt you will agree that , it needs time and space. I can direct you to some interesting web links , but again I doubt you will go through all those, unless you are really interested. Anyway I give below a broad and brief description ..( provided Mr Kumudupinto allows space )

Scientific thinking is that mode of thinking –about any scientific subject , content , or problem – in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structure inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon of them .
    A well cultivated Scientific Thinker
    • raises vital scientific questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely
    • gather and assess relevant scientific data and information ,using abstract ideas to interpret them effectively
    • comes to well- reasoned scientific conclusions and solutions testing them against relevant criteria and standards.
    • Thinks open mindedly within convergent systems of scientific thought , recognizing and assessing scientific assumptions, implications and practical consequences – and
    • Communicates effectively with others in proposing solutions to complex scientific problems

So, I hope we can now expect the explanation …” how reincarnation happens”

    • Wathsala Vithanage says:

      @S Perera
“Extremely puzzled about your statements (and “ understanding”) on Science.
(“ Science will never explain everything……” “ Science is all about set of axioms … “) Who said these statements describe Science or scientific thinking ?…. (Probably , only Wathsala Vithanage)”

My reasoning is based on established theories in western Science and Mathematics unlike yours which are just word plays. You are running away from the core of the argument by playing with words. It is not Wathsala Vithanage who said Science will not explain every thing but Godel a Hungarian mathematician (I have only pointed out it to you). And I have referred to Chaos theory to express the difference we would have experienced if our axioms were initially different (please go through them by clicking on them dear Scientist).

S Perera we have learned the Scientific method, so copying it here is not necessary (next time put a reference as scientists do without copying and pasting from other people, yes you could have given this link or the name of the book The Miniature Guide For Students and Faculty To Scientific Thinking). And remember that, according to the same scientific method you are referring to you cannot reject anything unless you prove it false. You can not reject something just because you believe otherwise or you do not like the idea. A Hypothesis can only be falsified based on evidences. Therefore my previous question still stands, PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT A SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION THAT DISPROVES REINCARNATION. Until scientific method disprove it we will keep believing it.

However now I highly doubt about your analytical and mathematical abilities as you have no argument against the case I have made earlier based on Godel’s theorem and Chaos theory. You have grabbed a sentence I have written out of context, please don’t play fool with words face the argument like a man. Science cannot explain every thing because of Godel’s theory of incompleteness that is the argument (an argument made by scientists not by Wathsala Vithanage), it seems you like to challenge Godel the mathematician? And it seems yes, because you act like the all knowing scientist. Therefore I add a second challenge to the list MATHEMATICALLY PROVE THAT GODEL’S THEOREM IS FALSE.

I will wrap it up like this, since you did not give a reference to a publication the first challenge still stands with falsifying Godel’s theorem. So the list is now updated.

      1. REFER TO A SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION THAT DISPROVES REINCARNATION
      2. MATHEMATICALLY PROVE THAT GODEL’S THEOREM IS FALSE

Note: Please do not write any bullshit without answering the above 2 questions otherwise the list will grow. Secondly I have no time to spent on moot writings that have no substance (Implies that I will not answer to your next writing if it has no substance like the latest one).

For your convenience I’m providing you following references to Godel’s theorem. None mathematical version may suit to an apparently lay person like you [2]. Consider science as the Oracle in [2].

    • Wathsala Vithanage says:

@S Perera what kind of a pathetic statement is this from a person who claims to be a scientist (……etc, (and that’s what I am doing for a living ))?
“Blog Author says these films are about reincarnation. But again we are very much sure, these are fictional stories. So what is their to prove ? or disprove in that matter ?”

Yes the author says it is about a reincarnation story. But our argument was about reincarnation itself which is a concept and not about the validity of the fictitious movie. There are fictitious movies that show wars between nations, so next time be bravely stupid enough to say that there is no such thing/notion/concept called war just because the story happens to be a fictitious one.

  11. S Perera says:

I was waiting to hear something from @fiqri ( see his post .. “ Then after will explain how reincarnation happens “)

Seems you are impatient,…. two consecutive posts . so I’ll try to satisfy your ego.

“My reasoning is based on established theories in western Science and Mathematics……. Godel a Hungarian mathematician -I have pointed out … And I have referred to Chaos theory …”

Really appreciate your deep knowledge and understanding of Godel’s theorems and Chaos theory. In fact , ( not only myself) , none of my colleagues had any idea about Godel’s theorem before…..so thank you for drawing attention. Now we also can try to understand your reasoning based on above theorems.

As per your web links ( Wikipedia) to…
Gödel’s incompleteness theorems…-The first incompleteness theorem states that no consistent system of axioms whose theorems can be listed by an “effective procedure” (essentially, a computer program) is capable of proving all facts about the natural numbers. For any such system, there will always be statements about the natural numbers that are true, but that are unprovable within the system. The second incompleteness theorem shows that if such a system is also capable of proving certain basic facts about the natural numbers, then one particular arithmetic truth the system cannot prove is the consistency of the system itself.
    And ….
Chaos theory is a field of study in mathematics, physics, economics and philosophy studying the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions.. Small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for chaotic systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general.[1] This happens even though these systems are deterministic, meaning that their future behaviour is fully determined by their initial conditions, with no random elements involved.[2] In other words, the deterministic nature of these systems does not make them predictable.[3] This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos. Chaotic behavior can be observed in many natural systems, such as the weather.[4] Explanation of such behavior may be sought through analysis of a chaotic mathematical model, or through analytical techniques such as recurrence plots and Poincaré maps.Chaos theory is applied in many scientific disciplines: mathematics, programming, microbiology, biology, computer science, economics,[5][6][7] engineering,[8] finance,[9][10] philosophy, physics, politics, population dynamics, psychology, and robotics.[11]

Based on above , now ..I hope a fair minded person ( may be ..except stupid ones ..) can clearly understand the “reasoning “ and justification of following statements (“ Science will never explain everything……” “ Science is all about set of axioms … “).

….” we have learned the Scientific method, so copying it here is not necessary.. “

Actually this para was inserted at the specific request of @ Fiqri ( refer his post ), and I do no see any reason for you to get offended .
No doubt ,you have mastered the scientific reasoning ( as proved by … Gödel’s theorems and Chaos theory..). I hope we will here some reasoning from you in future based on “ Eastern Science and Mathematics “ …… as well !

“ PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT A SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION THAT DISPROVES REINCARNATION. Until scientific method disprove it we will keep believing it “

Not only the cat , It seems the dog also has jumped out of the bag !
So much so …to Scientific Reasoning !!!

“Yes the author says it is about a reincarnation story. But our argument was about reincarnation itself which is a concept and not about the validity of the fictitious movie. There are fictitious movies that show wars between nations, so next time be bravely stupid enough to say that there is no such thing/notion/concept called war just because the story happens to be a fictitious one.”

Admitting my stupidness ( as bravely as possible ), I categorically say ……in reality , there is no such thing/notion/concept called war as depicted in these movies , . not only just because the story happens to be a fictitious one …but also due to the fact these movies are made to earn money and to generate profits to the film producers. It is so much profitable to the film producers to appeal to the emotions, feelings, fantasies of the viewing public . Producers can generate millions of dollars so long as people connect their fantasies, beliefs with these stories , whether those are related to love , hate ,war, …….reincarnation ,

So, …what is their to prove in the two film stories related to reincarnation ?

    • Wathsala Vithanage says:

You said “So, …what is their to prove in the two film stories related to reincarnation ?” In my opinion movies are temporally ordered set of events based on real world concepts such as love, hate or war created by their producers with whatever intention. I do not mind their intentions because it has nothing to do with the argument. The argument I raised was simply against your statement “I feel really pity for those believers,in this 21 st Century, with so much advancement in Science and Knowledge” which I believe is incorrect. I think you referred to those who believe in reincarnation as “those believers” in your statement, which makes your statement to reduce in to the statement “I feel really pity for those who believe in reincarnation, in this 21 st Century, with so much advancement in Science and Knowledge”. The derived statement which is incorrect has nothing to do with any of these two movies in specific or movies in general other than falsifying the concept of reincarnation. I have pointed out according to Godel’s theorem it is impossible to prove this sort of things with science (not only reincarnation but the concept of god as well). I asked you to refer a published work that disproves the concept of reincarnation (which is an impossibility) to strengthen my argument as your statement implied that science has already disproved the concept of reincarnation. Therefore in my opinion it is not required to feel pity about those who are atheists, those who believe in god or reincarnation at the mercy of the 21st century science as science is incapable of proving or disproving them. In other words just keep believing what you like (atheist or concept of god) and let others believe in what they like (reincarnation). When science meets this particular area of human belief it is incapable, incomplete and becomes a complete handicap. If you don’t like the concept of reincarnation purely state that you personally don’t believe in it without incorrectly and unreasonably referring to 21st century science implying that science has already proved it incorrect.

    • Fiqri says:

      @S Perera

Sorry for the delay (was away in the weekend with no access for the internet)

OK back to the point, as per you these are the methods (i hope a sort of summary) [I must say i don’t care what the movie says and I am writing this since that you looking for proof on reincarnation through science, correct me if i am wrong]

      1. raises vital scientific questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely
      2. gather and assess relevant scientific data and information ,using abstract ideas to interpret them effectively
      3. comes to well- reasoned scientific conclusions and solutions testing them against relevant criteria and standards.
      4. Thinks open mindedly within convergent systems of scientific thought , recognizing and assessing scientific assumptions, implications and practical consequences – and
      5. Communicates effectively with others in proposing solutions to complex scientific problems

I have few questions for you and based on that I can explain how this happen scientifically.

      1. All above items are depend on what you see, what you hear , what you touch right ? (for example what your eyes can see even through a microscope, what your ears can hear …etc)
      2. Do you belive that (science has explained has proof) every thing (human, things, trees etc) has an AURA sorrrounding its body)
      3. Do you belive there are stories (again scientifcally has no explaination but there is proof) people has gone out of their body and witnessing they were in surgery and explained exactly what happend)
      4. Are you are buddhist ?
      5. Do you belive in buddhist teachings ?

Let me know your answers. BTW Let me know that you can read and understand sinhaleese, will be much more comfortable for me to explain than in english language🙂
